The Lagos State Government will formally welcome President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, May 23, 2016 on a two-day working visit to the State. It will be President Buhari's first official visit to the state since he assumed office about a year ago.

A statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, stated that this is the first time in about 15years that a sitting President will be visiting the State on a working visit and is a testimony to the landmark achievements in the last one year of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as well as the good working relationship between Lagos State and the Federal Government.

American Pharoah, the first Triple Crown winner in more than 30 years, is taking to his post-racing life quite well. But, as Joe Drape of the New York Times reports, retirement doesn’t mean the champion gets to relax.
Now that he has been put out to stud, Pharoah is busy siring what many hope will be the next generation of Triple Crown contenders. While genetics isn’t everything in horse racing, Pharoah’s customers are banking on his championship pedigree to the tune of $200,000 for each of 160 mares he will cover (a horse-person word for “have horse-sex with”) this season.

Has the oversaturated coverage of experimental stem cell treatments on superstar athletes partially contributed to the undue expectations held by the public? According to Tim Caulfield, research director of the Health Law Institute at the University of Alberta and one of the authors of the new set of guidelines released by the International Society for Stem Cell Research on Thursday, the answer is yes.
The bulk of the ISSCR’s updated guidelines are devoted to the various ethical concerns, oversight, transparency, and best practices for clinical research, but the ISSCR also described the reporting on advances made to stem cell research as “frequently far from ideal.”

Chris McKinlay was just like thousands of other graduate students. He spent most of his nights chiseling away at his PhD thesis—an arcane treatise on large-scale data processing with supercomputers—living on a couple hundred dollars per month, sleeping in his cramped cubicle, and scrolling listlessly through online dating sites in search of love or, at least, a worthwhile diversion.
That is, until he hacked OkCupid.
McKinlay, frustrated by months of online dating with meager results, began to think about the complex algorithms that OkCupid uses to match compatible users. “The first thing I did was gather a lot of data from OkCupid and mine all that data for patterns,” he told NOVA. But McKinlay’s passing interest in collecting OkCupid data soon evolved into an obsession. “I started using all of my supercomputing time analyzing OkCupid match question data.”
