Barcelona presents its new kit for the 2016/17 season

Barcelona will aim to defend their La Liga title in vertical stripes next season, switching back from the horizontal stripes that angered some sections of the club’s fanbase last year.
Manufactured by Nike, the new shirt has been inspired by the kit from the 1991/92 season, during which Barcelona won their first European Cup at Wembley.

From a distance, the shirt has simple blocks of the traditional colours, but closer up fans will see that within the blue and red stripes there are alternating lighter shades of the same hues.
The sleeves and shoulders of the shirt are made of a light navy blue fabric that contrasts with the rest of the top.
Both inside and outside, the shirt has some subtle references to the club’s history and values.
At the back of the neck appears the word “Barca” along with a small Catalan flag, while the words “Crit” and “Valent” (from the chorus of the club’s hymn) appear inside the right and left cuffs respectively.
A red stripe goes down the side of the shirt, as well as down the side of the shorts, which are otherwise completely blue.

The socks of the kit are also blue, with a red line at the calf, but an alternative sock design has also been presented which will be all red with a blue line at the calf.
The letters of the player names and the player numbers, meanwhile, are said to be inspired by the curves of the city’s iconic architecture.
Nike’s kit is also one of the most technically advanced ever, with the stripes at the side expanding when the player moves in order to provide greater ventilation.
The kit went on sale on Monday, May 30.
